Licorice and Hendricks

We'd like to introduce our gorgeous boys, Licorice and Hendricks!
Licorice is about 4 years old and has been staying with us at the refuge for 3 years. He is a Satin, which means he has a lovely shiny coat, but could develop a painful and dreadful disease called osteodystrophy. At the moment he gets around his cage ok but is showing signs of slowing down, which means he will probably need pain meds in the near future.

Since his last dental and abscess removal he has been eating well but will most likely need more dentals in the future. He lost his friend to this disease and recently has found a new friend who goes by the name of Hendricks.

Hendricks is a recent surrender, around 5 years old and has compaction. Compaction is a build up of fecal material in the anal sack which can become very painful, so his foster carer needs to make sure he is kept clean and clear. Compaction is quite common in older males, but because of this condition and his age, we decided he should stay in the refuge with his loving foster mum. Because of his age and medical condition, he was the perfect friend for Licorice and the two hit it off, becoming best buddies.

​Due to Licorice and Hendrick's age and medical conditions, these two sweet boys will live the remainder of their life in our care where we can monitor them for changes and ensure their needs are met.
